Spring water in Terai region of Nepal

Geological investigation is essential for planning and developing the nation.  It truly guides during infrastructure construction which is backbone for prosperity of the country.  Springs investigation at the Northern of Terai is quite necessary in present context through geological aspect. Development polices specially focusing on Bhabar zone depends up on geological and hydrogeological condition of that place. It helps in preservation of water sources, and can assist in future planning of infrastructure development and settlement.

Northern part of Terai is zone where many facts of Neo-tectonics of Himalaya are hidden, many geoscientist are constantly working to the fact (Sharma 1995; Singh 1996). To develop a solid theory about Neo-tectonic activity of Himalaya groundwater hydrology and springs have major implication.

Nepal is a developing country. Large scaled development projects are proposing also in Bhabar Zone such as East-West Railway project. Such project could affect the groundwater system ecosystem and biodiversity of Terai. It may cause hazards such as flooding and sedimentation in Southern part of Terai. At the same time, groundwater system of that place could affect those infrastructures. So that hydrogeological study is needed. In this research I assembled geological and hydrogeological evidences to investigate spring as a body of groundwater focusing on Northern part of Terai.
